Today’s Wordle #557 Hints, Clues And Answer For Wednesday, December 28th

Wednesday—Odin’s Day—is upon us. A day for ravens and dark magic and snowstorms and old Norse ballads. Winter is here and in some parts of the country, it’s arrived all at once and with a vengeance.

My neck of the woods was spared the calamitous snowfall that much of the country saw, but it’s getting colder and it looks like we may get our share soon. I’ll take whatever the snow giants will give us—the more snowpack, the less likely we’ll have wildfires in the summer.

In any case, Christmas has come and gone and New Year’s Eve is fast-approaching. I have no plans. I think we’ll make snacks and sit around and play board games and watch movies, low-key. I’ve had enough wild New Year’s Eve parties in my day. I’m (mostly) ready to chill out.

In any case, we’re not there yet. A few more days of 2022 remain. A few more 2022 Wordles to conquer!

Today’s Wordle Solution (Spoilers!)

The Hint: To force or urge someone to do something.

The Clue: This word begins with a vowel.

The Answer:

This was a hard word to give a hint for. I wanted to contrast it with compel but that almost gives it away entirely. I know it’s lame to use what amounts to a word’s definition as a hint, but I wasn’t feeling very clever. It’s been a long couple of days.

I didn’t have a great time with this one, either. My guesses weren’t the luckiest, and it took five to whittle it down to the final answer (compared to Wordle Bot’s three—drats!) Flour only narrowed the remaining solutions down to 253, and stale wasn’t much better, leaving me with 28 to choose from and just two yellow boxes.

At least devil helped out a bit, giving me the ‘L’ in green and narrowing down where the remaining letters could go. I now had an ‘I’ to work with as well, but several words came to mind as a potential final answer—including my fourth guess, pixel. After that, I could only think of impel, which turned out to be the answer. No huzzahs today. Maybe a tepid woohoo instead.
