Today’s Wordle #499 Hint, Clues And Answer For Monday, October 31st Word Of The Day

Happy Halloween, Wordle fam!

At last, the day of tricks and treats has arrived. Last year I dressed up as a lumberjack—this year, I’m still not sure! I’ve been putting off coming up with a costume until the very last minute. I’m not sure why. I guess it’s just that kind of a year.

I’ll think of something and report back tomorrow.

In any case, it’s also the last of the #400’s in Wordle. We’re on #499 and tomorrow, November 1st, we’ll kick off with the 500th Wordle! Wordle #600 will drop in February of 2023.

2023 isn’t all that far off, actually. Somehow we have just two months remaining in 2022. Crazy.

Today’s Wordle Solution (With Spooky Spoilers!)

The Hint: In a manner that is fitting or appropriate. (Alas, not particularly appropriate for this holiday!)

The Clue: This word begins with a vowel.

The Answer:

I feel pretty good about these guesses, even if Wordle Bot beat me with just three. For one thing, I started with a thematic opening guess. Witch turned out to be a decent opener, too, with just 128 possible solutions remaining.

Boars slashed that number down to 21, which is unfortunately still quite a few. At this point, with only ‘A’ a hit and only ‘U’ remaining, I guessed a word that would test both ‘U’ and ‘Y’ and putty ended up being just as perfect as you can get without guessing correctly.

I couldn’t think of anything that ends in TPY so I knew the ‘P’ would need to be in the second box and I was 99% certain that meant the word would start with ‘A’ (again, not many words end TAY). Once I’d placed those letters I knew immediately that the answer must be aptly.

And sure enough, I was right! NO TRICKS FOR ME. ONLY TREATS.
