Today’s Wordle #494 Hint, Clues And Answer For Wednesday, October 26th Word Of The Day

I’m pretty sure that Wednesday is the hardest day of the week to spell. It was for me. I imagine it was for most people.

Sure, Tuesday has the weird ue combination and that can be hard to remember. But Wednesday? It doesn’t look at all like how it sounds. It sounds like Wind’s Day. or WENsday. It does not sound like WED – NES – DAY.

But that’s how I learned to remember it. Or how I taught myself to remember it. I just sounded it out in my head over and over again every time I had to spell it. WED-NES-DAY.

But I digress. Bigly. It’s what I do! I’m a digresser. If I’m not careful, I could start digressing while discussing digressions. Which might be considered regressing toward regressions.

The Answer:

Well this was a lucky day, alright. I blame it on my recent spat of baking. I’ve been making artisan bread loaves in my Dutch Oven. I actually have two Dutch Ovens (these ones, they’re great) because I like to use one for soup and one for the bread. You need to make those both at the same time so you can have a hot delicious bowl of soup and some buttery bread to dip in it. Okay, now I’m getting hungry…

And I’m digressing! Sheesh!

Anyways, my first guess—shale—was pretty good! Only 112 solutions remained. Wordle Bot said merely that it was “a strong opening guess.”

My second guess was even better. As I said, I’ve been thinking about baking a lot and I have tons and tons of flour, which occurred to me would be a good word to test out the ‘O’ and the ‘U’ since I’d already eliminated the ‘A’ and the ‘E’.

Well yeah, it was so good at first—as those green boxes fell—I thought I’d gotten this one in two. Alas, such was not the case. But only one solution remained.

Flout. To flout authority. To flout the rules. A great word, but one I haven’t heard in a good long time. I think this might be a pretty decent challenge for folks today.

As far as I’m concerned, I am the king of the world. Huzzah!
