Today’s Wordle #1606 Hints And Answer For Tuesday, November 11

Tuesday is here again. Tyr’s Day, as it were. Tyr, the Germanic/Norse god of war. I’m not sure if Tuesdays are inherently more warlike, but that’s neither here nor there. It’s also, perhaps fittingly, Veterans Day — a day to honor veterans and consider the cost of our foreign entanglements. Thankfully for us Wordlers, the only war we have to fight is a word-war, or a Wordle war, rather, and that’s especially true if you play Competitive Wordle against a friend (or against me, or the nefarious and evil Wordle Bot). Either way, we have a Wordle to solve so let’s get right to it!

How To Play Wordle

Play Puzzles & Games on Forbes

Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer:

  • Green: The letter is in the word and in the correct spot.
  • Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in the wrong spot.
  • Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.

Use these clues to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot or even against me, your humble narrator. See rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post.

Wordle Bot Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

SALON seemed like a good opening guess, but today it left me with 277 words and a measly yellow ‘O’ and that didn’t get a whole lot better with CHORE. Sure, it slashed the number of potential solutions down to 26, but that’s still not great. And I still had that yellow ‘O.’ MOTIF left me with just two words, and a few yellow boxes, but I came up with OPIUM and GIZMO and couldn’t decide which was more likely. Ultimately, I went with the word with more common letters and not with the word that had a “Z” in it—and that was my downfall. OPIUM is bad! Don’t do drugs, kids! GIZMO was the Wordle.

Competitive Wordle Score

I get -1 point for losing to the Bot and -1 for guessing in five for a total of -2. The Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and 1 for beating me. Our new November totals are once again a tie—so much for my lead!

Erik: 4 points

Wordle Bot: 4 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Definition & Etymology

Definition: A gizmo is an informal term for a small mechanical or electronic device, especially one whose exact name you don’t know or can’t recall — essentially a gadget or contraption.

Etymology: The word gizmo emerged in U.S. slang during World War II (1940s), likely among servicemen. Its exact origin is uncertain, but it may be related to earlier slang like gadget and gimmick, or to playful coinages common in military jargon.
