Today’s Wordle #1597 Hints And Answer For Sunday, November 1

Halloween weekend is drawing to a close. Next up: Thanksgiving! I still think Thanksgiving is the best holiday. It’s like Christmas without the stress of presents and all the commercialization, though Black Friday keeps trying its level best to absorb the entire week. In any case, we have a Wordle to solve and it’s still weeks until Turkey Day. Read on for hints and clues and the Wordle itself, below.

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

How To Play Wordle

Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer:

  • Green: The letter is in the word and in the correct spot.
  • Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in the wrong spot.
  • Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.

Use these clues to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot or even against me, your humble narrator. See rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post.

Today’s Wordle Hints And Answer

  • Wordle Bot’s Starting Word: SLATE
  • My Starting Word Today: STALE (202 words remaining)

Wordle Bot Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

STALE is very similar to Wordle Bot’s usual first guess, SLATE, and neither were lucky today. I got one yellow box but was left with 202 possible solutions remaining. I tried CHOIR for guess #2 and that slashed the number down to just 3: RAPID, RADII or RABID. I thought RAPID seemed likelier, but I was wrong. RABID was the Wordle!

It’s interesting. The Wordle Bot also had 202 possible solutions after its first guess, but then had 13 remaining after guessing CORNY — 10 more than I had! I think this actually helped the Bot get RABID over RAPID because some of its remaining words had the letter “B” like RUMBA and BRIAR. Not as many had “P” (only PRIMA) I believe. With just three words left, I didn’t have anything to sway my guess.

Competitive Wordle Score

In a total reversal from yesterday, I get -1 point for losing to the Bot and 0 for guessing in 4 and the Bot gets +1 for guessing in three and +1 for guessing in three. Our totals our now tied for November:

Erik: 1 point

Wordle Bot: 1 point

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

“Rabid” comes from the Latin rabidus meaning “raging, mad, furious,” which itself derives from rabere — “to rave, be mad.”

The word entered Middle English via Old French rabide in the 15th century, originally describing animals afflicted with rabies and later extended metaphorically to mean “fanatically zealous” or “extremely enthusiastic.”
