It’s not that hard to see Tim Tebow as something of a Renaissance man. The two-time BCS National Champion quarterback, who won the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore, had an exciting stint in the NFL before joining ESPN as a broadcaster. Then Tebow took up baseball, philanthropy, and even dabbled as a filmmaker.
Now, Tebow and his wife Demi-Leigh Tebow are getting into the wellness space, not just as brand ambassadors but as investors. Just this month, the couple signed on with Restore Hyper Wellness, a fast-growing network of wellness studios with over 100 locations across the United States.
The 34-year-old former NFL and minor league baseball pro and his 26-year-old wife, a former Miss South Africa and Miss Universe in 2017, both say that their backgrounds as athletes and fitness enthusiasts make the partnership a natural fit.
We only have one body, and it’s our job to take care of it so (that) we can make the most of every single day,” Tim Tebow said, during the announcement of the partnership. “Demi-Leigh and I want to be at our best, to pursue the things that we’re passionate about every day. And what is available at Restore make up an important piece of how we take care of ourselves,” added the ex-Jets and Broncos quarterback.
Restore is perhaps best known among health nuts and enthusiasts as the company that brought whole body cryotherapy to the consumer market. Cryotherapy, said to be an ancient practice made for the modern age, uses sub-zero temperatures to target inflammation, pain and soreness, while offering healing and recovery for the active person.
The practice is typically made up of 2-3 minute sessions, in which an individual steps into a cryotherapy chamber, which is about the size of a shower. Another aim of cryotherapy is to help people boost energy levels and natural defense and immune systems. Some cryotherapy fans say it aids flexibility, mobility and better sleep too.
Tim’s wife and business partnered echoed the same sentiment about their new project.
“Taking care of yourself every day should be something that you look forward to and Restore makes that possible,” said Demi-Leigh Tebow. “We hope that everyone who walks out of a Restore location leaves feeling their best, and ready to make the most of every opportunity.”
The company stated this spring that if plans to have over 200 locations open across the U.S. by end of the calendar year.
Last week I got the chance to chat with Tim and Demi-Leigh Tebow about their new business partnership with Restore Hyper Wellness, as well as their own takes on health and fitness, plus what it’s like to work together as a couple.
Andy Frye: Tim, you’ve done a lot and accomplished a lot. What’s making you now go deep-cut into health with this partnership?
Tim Tebow: I’ve been committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle since I was young—from training, to diet and so much more. The priority I’ve placed on health has always been driven by the understanding that I get one life and once chance to make it count.
As I’ve grown and learned more over the years, I want to be someone that finds the newest and best ways to take care of my body, so I can do the things I love and (that which) I believe I’m called to. Just like more healthy food options are available for us to trust for our fuel, more holistic approaches are accessible for us to trust for our wellbeing. Restore Hyper Wellness provides services that Demi and I, and so many others, can count on to keep us feeling good on the go.
AF: Demi-Leigh, you and Tim are both active. But how do you combine your different experiences to become health & lifestyle advocates?
Demi-Leigh Tebow: Both Tim and I have been blessed with opportunities to impact people. Whether on a field, on a runway, on TV, or in the plains of Africa. It’s a great privilege, but also a great responsibility. There are a lot of moments—and people—that demand our best. And it’s harder to show up and give your best when you don’t feel your best.
I often say, “take time to pour into yourself, because you can’t pour out of an empty cup.” Restore Hyper Wellness is a great way for us to “pour” into ourselves. It focuses not just on recovery, but equally as much on preventative treatments, which is so important when we’re constantly on the go. Tim and I love the IV drips – they give us the necessary vitamins and nutrients we need! Another’s also Red Light therapy, which boosts energy and mood. We’re excited to be the first brand ambassadors for Restore.
AF: Tim, obviously being an active person now is different than the every day grind of the NFL and baseball. How are your health regimens different now?
Tim Tebow: I believe “active” can apply to so much more than just training in a gym or preparing for a competition. There are so many ways people can take ownership of their health to fit their lifestyle.
I’m someone who enjoys strength training for all the benefits that come from doing challenging lifts, but it doesn’t stop there. While it’s a different type of stress, there’s still stress on my body from traveling all over the world for ministry. I still need to focus on taking care of my body through more than just physical training.
VIDEO: Tim Tebow as always “unconventional” on and off the field.
AF: Demi-Leigh, I imagine you and Tim are a little competitive. Is there any athletic venture in which you can totally beat Tim?
Demi-Leigh Tebow: Yes, we’re both a little competitive. OK, A LOT competitive! But I think it’s just in our nature to want to be the best version of what God’s created us to be. And, who doesn’t like a little competition to drive you to be better?
Obviously, we all know Tim was a professional athlete, however, let’s see how well he runs through an airport in a pair of five-inch heels! I think I’ll take the dub on that one!
In all seriousness, one thing I love about Tim is that he doesn’t like to lose. And I’m the same way. No matter what we’re doing—ministry, fitness, business, brain health, recovery—we try our best to approach everything we do with all of our hearts.
