Thursday, April 21st Solution And Hint

Another day, another Wordle.

There’s a weird rhythm to my days lately. Writing a daily Wordle guide sort of makes me feel the time go by more distinctly. It’s Thursday again. I’m conscious of it and aware of it in ways that I didn’t used to be. Here is today’s Wordle, on Thursday April 21st, and next week I will be writing about Wordle on Thursday, April 28th.

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps on this petty pace from day to day, to the last syllable of recorded time; and all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death.

So it goes. Mortality stares us back, teeth-bared and grinning, a macabre reminder of our time spent and our time remaining.

But I lose myself in reverie. We’re here to talk about Wordle, and talk about Wordle we shall.

And the answer is . . .

Oxide!

Wow, what a tricky word! This is one of the only (the only?) words I’ve seen in Wordle that includes the letter ‘X’ actually. Pretty rare as far as letters go. I almost didn’t get this one, truth be told.

My first guess was actually pretty solid (and Wordle Bot agrees) giving me two of the three vowels I needed. Still, needing three vowels is rare but a word like adieu would have been better this time around.

Hello wasn’t a great guess, but I was sort of drawing a blank at this point and wanted to test out the vowels in different boxes. Scone was better, though not by much. At least now I was pretty sure the ‘O’ would be the starting letter since words like canoe were not an option.

Obese was a flat-out bad guess. Wordle Bot was quick to point this out. I just couldn’t think of anything with an ‘O’ in the first box and an ‘E’ in the final box, but I should have known better since scone eliminated the ‘S’.

Much brainstorming was required to get to the answer, despite it being the only word remaining as an option. Who thinks oxide? It’s just a very random word! But I got there at last, and all’s well that end’s well.
