Here is the 99% scored season 2 of Peacemaker, we are seeing a strange situation unfold. Multiverses are generally left to Marvel, but here, Peacemaker keeps diving into another, seemingly better dimension.
It’s perfect, and fans have recently said, too perfect. Peacemaker is a hero, his father is alive and kind, his brother is alive and his best friend, Rick Flagg is a doofus, Emilia Harcourt seems interested in rekindling a relationship. He’d be ditching some of his friends to stay there, sure, but he’d also stop being hunted by the entire US government. So what’s the problem?
A big one, it seems.
Fans have now been collecting evidence that the alternate world is one where Germany won World War II and paved over America society. At the very least, white supremacists took over, but Nazis seem more likely. Why? Well, let’s go through it.
- There is not a single non-white person in the alternate universe. Zero. You can go through every scene set in that universe and look at all the background characters are there are none. It is impossible to believe that is not intentional.
- A smaller clue, but there is not a single American flag anywhere in the alternate universe, even when Rick goes to a government building.
- There’s no Eagly. An eagle is obviously the symbol of America, so either he never existed or was killed. I do not think it’s a coincidence the show has introduced us to this bizarre “eagle hunter” character, but an eagle hunter in the other universe would actually make sense if say, Nazis were trying to exterminate all American ties.
- His father’s devil costume may be a different color, and he may be a hero now, but that doesn’t mean his white supremacist views have changed, they may just be accepted now.
- There are smaller clues, a portrait of a German Shepard (the new Eagly?), a book called The American Century laying around, even a vaguely swastika shaped ashtray (that may be pushing it).
- The resistance group attacking government buildings may be desperate freedom fighters rebelling against fascism rather than just terrorists.
- Someone pronounces Blüdhaven in a very German way (normally it’s pronounced Bloodhaven in the DC universe, and why mention it at all?)
- James Gunn recently commented on why the intro is changing a bit each time, saying the episodes feature different characters. But fans have noted that the entire backdrop is series of squares with light dancing around illuminating different lines. A theory is that once this is revealed, the squares will be highlighted as swastikas.
Is this theory correct? There are no guarantees that it is. But even a few of these are a reach, the amount of them that add up to this idea or at least something close to it would imply that yes, this may actually be what’s happening. And it may be time to find that out this week.
