The Weeknd Has A New Single Dropping Tonight

The Weeknd took to social media to announce the release of his new single titled “Double Fantasy,” featuring Future…and fans don’t need to wait long until they get to hear the tune.

The song is set to debut on Thursday (April 20) night, and it will be featured on the soundtrack for his upcoming HBO show, The Idol. The Weeknd announced the news on his Instagram, using an image that see shim snuggled up to his Idol co-star, Lily-Rose Depp to catch the attention of followers.

“Double Fantasy” was produced by the renowned musicians Metro Boomin and Mike Dean, two of the most sought-after hitmakers in hip-hop. Fittingly, The Weeknd premiered the single during Metro Boomin’s set at Coachella last weekend.

Before officially giving festival attendees a sneak peek at what was to come, The Weeknd had teased “Double Fantasy” on social media the week prior in his Instagram Story. The clip the Canadian superstar posted showed him and Dean readying an orchestral arrangement of the tune in a studio.

The Weeknd is currently focused on his highly anticipated TV series, The Idol, which is expected to debut on HBO in early June. He serves the creator, producer co-writer and even the star of the show, and it appears he’s written and recorded music for the program as well.

The Idol reportedly focuses on a pop musician (or “idol”) who experiences a nervous breakdown and then resolves to win back her title as the top pop star in America. The plot also sees the star enter into a complicated relationship with a self-help guru, who also happens to be the head of a cult.

Despite his focus on the TV venture, The Weeknd has not forgotten about his music. He wrote and recorded an original tune for the Avatar sequel, “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength),” which was released in late 2022 and which turned out to be a minor hit.

Additionally, he recently recruited Ariana Grande to remix his single “Die For You.” That cut was originally released in 2017, but it went viral on TikTok in 2022, leading it to become a proper chart win. After Grande joined in on the fun, the tune shot to the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 chart earlier this year. That success marked the pair’s second Hot 100 champion together.
