The Walking Dead: Sinners and Saints, a 2020 virtual reality (VR) game, will be getting its Meta Quest 3 update next month. The development was revealed during UploadVR Winter Showcase, an online event showcasing the newest games in the market. The game is currently compatible with older head-mounted displays (HMDs) in the Quest series.
The Walking Dead To Become More Enhanced
The new update will bring enhanced graphics to the game. Meta Quest 3 supports 8 GB RAM and has in-built storage going to 128 GB. Furthermore, it supports a resolution of 2064 x 2208 per eye, which makes it a suitable fit for high-definition gameplay. It currently supports games including Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, Beat Saber, Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, and more.
Recently, the digital media platform Mashable called the headset “Quest 3.5” following its latest update. The latest upgrade enhanced processing of its central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU). Additionally, Meta Platforms, the maker of the headset, reported that it will improve the “home” feature where players can gather and socialize if not playing any game.
Meta said, “We’re deep in the throes of the holiday season, and we’re here with an early gift for the Meta Quest community. That’s right, our v60 software update is starting to roll out, bringing with it new Horizon Home environments, cloud computing improvements to your boundaries, and more.”
According to the available data, not many gamers are using VR headsets. The Walking Dead: Sinners and Saints had nearly 40 users playing the game in November 2023. On its initial release in February 2020, the game managed to attract nearly 400 players.
Data shows around 70 Million people are using VR currently. On a global scale, this number reaches 170 Million, indicating that more adoption is required for the technology. Affordability is among the major issues that might be hindering the growth of HMDs.
Virtual reality headsets cost nearly $1,000 if one considers high-end options. Additionally, technological advancement in the sector has increased this cost further. Devices like HTC VIVE, Pimax Crystal, Apple Vision Pro, and more can easily deflect potential users given the expensive price labels on them.
Mark Zuckerberg, Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) CEO who pioneered the company in the metaverse, said regarding the future of VR, “You could probably go back to the first books. I bet people said ‘Why should you read when you could talk to other people?’ The point of reading is that you get to deeply immerse yourself in a person’s perspective. Right? Same thing with newspapers or phones or TVs. Soon it will be VR, I bet.”
With its rebranding in 2021, Meta Platforms took a hard turn and began its journey as a metaverse company. The company claims that Meta Quest 3 is currently the most powerful headset in the Quest series.
