Here are the top ten movies and TV shows on Netflix
August 15: Top 10 Movies on Netflix
- Day Shift
- Uncharted
- Purple Hearts
- The Informer
- Flight
- Sing 2
- The Nice Guys
- The Gray Man
- Wedding Season
- Code Name: Emperor
No surprises at the top here. Day Shift was practically guaranteed a perfect opening week. As a vampire-killing movie starring Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco with no competition, Day Shift easily captured the #1 spot with its first three days on Netflix. And looking at the new releases this week, I’ll be surprised if any other movie is able to stop Day Shift from having a perfect week. The only possible contender before Friday would be the Lili Reinhart film Look Both Ways.
The rest of the list has barely changed from yesterday. Uncharted and Purple Hearts still make up second and third place, with the former completing its tenth consecutive day on the charts and the latter nabbing its 17th consecutive day.
Meanwhile, Sing 2 dropped down to sixth place, but still extended its incredible Top 10 streak to 54 days—that’s the fifth-best streak of all time. In three days, Sing 2 could pass The Grinch, and in five days it can pass Vivo. After that, Sing 2 will need to remain on the charts for a total of 64 days to beat The Mitchells vs. The Machines and 67 days to beat We Can Be Heroes in order to claim the longest streak ever.
The only newcomer today is Code Name: Emperor at tenth place.
Of the films not yet mentioned, the longest streaks belong to The Gray Man (24 days), The Informer (eight days), Wedding Season (11 days), Flight (eight days), and The Nice Guys (six days).
The Age of Adaline was knocked off the Top 10 after a 13-day streak.
August 15: Top 10 Shows on Netflix
- Never Have I Ever
- The Sandman
- I Just Killed My Dad
- Locke & Key
- Stranger Things
- Instant Dream Home
- Virgin River
- Indian Matchmaking
- Riverdale
- Trainwreck: Woodstock ’99
Never Have I Ever completed a clean sweep this weekend, finally taking down The Sandman from the #1 spot this past Friday and continuing through the weekend. The show is trying to capture its first-ever perfect week. Never Have I Ever came close in 2020 with a six-day streak. And last year, the show only spent one day in first place. So 2022 could end up being the show’s best year yet.
The Sandman continued its stint in third place, bringing its Top 10 appearance total to ten days. The show was easily the top-viewed program on Netflix last week with 69,480,000 of total watch hours from subscribers.
Meanwhile, Stranger Things continued its legendary Top 10 run, bringing its unmatched streak to 83 days. The previous record had belonged to The Queen’s Gambit at 78 days—so Stranger Things is breaking that record and then some. For the record, Stranger Things has also spent more time than anyone else in the #1 position with 42 showings.
The show with the second-most first-place finishes? That would be Virgin River with 35 appearances. The show also just became the fifth adult program to ever reach 100 days on the charts.
But while Stranger Things has held onto its middling position, it seems as though Virgin River is on its way out. After 23 days on the charts and ten first-place finishes in 2022, Virgin River has dropped down to seventh place—easily its lowest placing yet. Last year, Virgin River didn’t drop down that far until 30 days into its run.
The rest of the list is fairly familiar. The longest streaks of shows not yet mentioned belong to I Just Killed My Dad (eight days), Riverdale (seven days), Locke & Key (five days), and Indian Matchmaking (five days).
Trainwreck: Woodstock ‘99 made its return to the Top 10 today after a four-day absence. That brings the documentary’s total appearances this year to nine days.
