On June 15, The Sandbox metaverse announced its official partnership with the well-known film producer Lionsgate and its partner company Millennium Media. The metaverse will help the studio build a web3 destination for its popular action film content. For a starter, they will launch an exclusive LAND named Action City filled with voxelized characters from fan-favorite franchises.
This exciting partnership makes Lionsgate the first of the major film and television studios to enter The Sandbox metaverse. The metaverse has planned an expansive roadmap based on their enriching production in horror and action genres, and Lionsgate will help convert its characters and catchy plots to web3-supported formats.
The first includes creating a Lionsgate-themed exclusive LAND area called the Action City. This feature will allow users to visit and create new ways to interact with other fans with similar tastes. The Action City will feature popular franchises, including Hell Boy, Rambo, and The Expendables, during the launch.
The content from both Lionsgate and Millennium will be created on web3 to allow users to customize their experience through their favorite characters and stories. In this way, The Sandbox will enable synergy between the studio and its fans.
More importantly, the featured items from the Action City will be more than just mannequins. These voxelized 3D items can be used as Avatars to upgrade their appearances within the metaverse. Users can create original items and Avatars based on Lionsgate content and trade or sell them for various perks.
Jenefer Brown, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Live, Interactive, and Location Based Entertainment at Lionsgate, said about the trailblazing partnership, said, “We’re excited by the new possibilities our strategic relationship with The Sandbox will offer our community.” She also added that the team is excited to help Liongate fans worldwide to engage, create, play and explore their film IPs in more ways than one can in the real world.
According to The Sandbox COO Sebastian Borget, the partnership with the studio is in line with the metaverse’s vision to create different virtual worlds. He did not forget to mention the incredible entertainment opportunity brought in by the company with 129 Academy Awards.
A few weeks ago, the Korean content creation company Studio Dragon entered a partnership with The Sandbox metaverse. With the Lionsgate partnership, it can delve further into the entertainment industry and its worldwide market.
The Sandbox is currently among the top 5 metaverse projects in the crypto ecosystem. Thanks to the 150+ partnerships it has managed to secure through the years, including Adidas, Snoop Dogg, The Walking Dead, South China Morning Post, The Smurfs, Care Bears, Atari, CryptoKitties, Shaun the Sheep, Mcdull, Hanjin Tan, and many more.
