‘The Gilded Age’ Season 3 Reveals An Imminent Release Date On HBO

Carrie Coon just had a memorable turn in HBO’s White Lotus season 3, but now she’s back for a different season 3, albeit on the same streaming service. That would be The Gilded Age season 3, where she plays let’s say, an antihero in the social scene of the day.

Now, HBO has given an official release date for The Gilded Age season 3, and it’s going to be on Sunday, June 22, just a month and a half from now. This will be well outside HBO’s current, huge Sunday night show, The Last of Us, which will end its second season on May 25.

Here’s a somewhat lengthy, official description for season 3 of The Gilded Age:

“Following the Opera War, the old guard is weakened and the Russells stand poised to take their place at the head of society. Bertha sets her sights on a prize that would elevate the family to unimaginable heights while George (Morgan Spector) risks everything on a gambit that could revolutionize the railroad industry — if it doesn’t ruin him first. Across the street, the Brook household is thrown into chaos as Agnes (Christine Baranski) refuses to accept Ada’s (Cynthia Nixon) new position as lady of the house. Peggy (Denée Benton) meets a handsome doctor from Newport whose family is less than enthusiastic about her career. As all of New York hastens toward the future, their ambition may come at the cost of what they truly hold dear.”

It has neither been declared that a fourth season has been auto-renewed for The Gilded Age, or that season 3 is planned to be its last, so the hope is that it will get big enough viewership to warrant coming back. It’s not the cheapest show in the world, but HBO seems to have liked its performance well enough, and it’s a good way to round out its catalogue.

Supposedly a big focus of the season will be an “age of divorce” that America started entering into during this time period. Here’s HBO’s Francesca Orsa speaking to Deadline:

“I think, broadly, it’s an interesting way in which we’ve explored that era of how divorce came to the forefront in United States relationships,” she said. “I think that there’s a conversation to be had about arranged marriages, and if it doesn’t necessarily work, what divorce looks like in that time, and what that bodes for society. And then whether you’re accepted in society or not, based on a divorce.”

It should certainly be an interesting season, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out. Yes, I do watch this!
