Topline
Actor Ezra Miller, known for their roles in the Fantastic Beasts and the Justice League movies, was arrested for alleged assault Tuesday, the second time in less than one month the star has been apprehended.
Key Facts
On March 28, Miller, 29, was arrested in Hilo, Hawaii, and charged with disorderly conduct and harassment after allegedly yelling obscenities and grabbing a microphone from a woman singing karaoke and lunging at a man playing darts at a bar, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Miller, who was released after paying the $500 bail, was the source of police calls in Hilo 10 times from March 7 to 30, Hawaii Police Assistant Chief Kenneth Quiocho told the Associated Press last month.
Later that day, Miller was escorted off the property of a couple who filed—and later dropped—a restraining order against the actor, claiming Miller burst into their bedroom, threatened them and stole items including a wallet and passport, according to the Associated Press.
Miller was arrested in Kea‘au on Tuesday for allegedly throwing a chair, which struck a 26-year-old woman in the forehead, after being asked to leave a home, and was released “pending further investigation,” according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Miller was previously arrested in 2011 for disorderly conduct for marijuana possession and in 2020 was caught on video appearing to have choked a woman at a bar in Iceland.
Forbes has reached out to representatives for Miller for comment.
Key Background
Miller, who stars in the DC and Warner Bros.’ 2023 feature The Flash, prompted an emergency meeting from studio executives after their March arrest, a source told Rolling Stone, where it was reportedly decided future projects involving Miller would be paused. Miller also stars in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which was released Friday. However, Deadline reported that Miller is not committed to any more Fantastic Beasts films, and because The Flash does not come out for another year, there aren’t plans to delay its release or move it to HBO Max. Warner Bros. declined to comment to Deadline.
Tangent
Miller, whose father is Robert S. Miller, a former publishing executive, has been performing since they were a child. Their first film role was at age 14 in the movie Afterschool. Miller dropped out of high school during their junior year, following a dream of Ludwig van Beethoven visiting them, according to New York Magazine. They have also starred in The Perks Of Being A Wallflower and We Need To Talk About Kevin.
