‘The First Descendant’ Is A Gorgeous Unreal Engine 5 Looter-Shooter

The First Descendant revealed its first gameplay trailer at Gamescom today. It’s a third-person cooperative looter-shooter where you play as Descendants, powerful player characters with a heavy arsenal, super-powers and a knack for taking down giant bosses.

The free-to-play game looks gorgeous, built using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. The character models, sprawling environments and plethora of bad guys to shoot are all detailed and very next-gen looking. Here’s the trailer:

The First Descendant is being developed and published by Nexon which certainly raises some questions about how the game will be monetized and what kind of revenue structure is in store. Hopefully it’s along the lines of most live-service shooters these days and offers a seasonal Battle Pass and optional cosmetics that don’t break the game.

PC players will get to test whether the game plays as good as it looks in the not-so-distant future. A Steam beta is scheduled for October 20th – 26th which you can sign up for here.

As of now, the game has no release date other than ‘Coming Soon.’ The First Descendant will release on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PlayStation 5.
