Topline
These are the best films, including Oscar winners and decades-old classics, set to join a streaming service next month, ranked by combined Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores.
Key Facts
The two best-rated films coming to Amazon Prime Video won the Academy Award for Best Picture more than five decades apart—1960’s The Apartment and 2013’s 12 Years a Slave.
Netflix will add Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, as well as two films whose leading actors were nominated for Oscars earlier this year: Living (2022), which garnered a nomination for Bill Nighy, and To Leslie (2022), which landed a surprising, and controversial, nomination for Andrea Riseborough.
The top-rated film coming to Hulu next month with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Man on Wire (2008), is a documentary following Philippe Petit’s walk on a tightrope between the Twin Towers in 1974.
HBO’s newly rebranded streaming service, Max, will add three versions of A Star is Born: The 1954 edition starring Judy Garland and James Mason, the 1976 version starring Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, and the 2018 remake starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.

Key Background
The Rotten Tomatoes critics score, known as the Tomatometer, is the percentage of critics who have given the film a positive review. A movie with at least 60% positive reviews is given a fresh tomato, while those with a score of less than 60% are given a splat. Metacritic calculates a weighted average of critics’ reviews, assigning different weights to each critic and publication, depending on importance or quality. Scores are displayed in green, yellow or red—indicating favorable, mixed or unfavorable reviews—and films with a score of at least 81% are designated as “must-see.” Both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic track user ratings and allow users to write reviews, though these are displayed separately from critics’ scores.
