The iconic Hofbräu festival tent is one of over 30 famous beer tents on the Oktoberfest grounds in Munich, Germany.
Don Tse
The 2025 edition of Munich’s famed Oktoberfest ran from September 20 to October 5, 2025.
An estimated 6.5 million people attended the world’s most famous beer festival. That is down from 6.7 million in 2024. That decline is attributed, in part, to a temporary closure of the event due to a bomb threat. In 2023, a record-breaking 7.2 million people attended, though that number was inflated by extra days added to the event so its ending could coincide with German Unity Day.
The Beer Flowed At Oktoberfest
An estimated 6.5 million liters (1.7 million gallons) of beer was served, according to estimates by the official Oktoberfest beer tents (2024: 7 million liters/1.8 million gallons; 2023: 7.4 million liters/2.0 million gallons).
That equates to about one measure of beer per attendee, slightly less than in 2024 and 2023.
Continuing a years-long trend, sales of non-alcoholic beer was up between 6% and 10%. Demand for non-alcoholic beverages as a whole—beer tents offer soft drinks and other beverages—was up 3%.
And So Did The Chicken
While revelers were drinking less, they were eating more. Food sales are estimated to have increased between 5% and 6%, excluding chicken. Though Oktobefest has yet to report chicken sales, at the midway point of the festival, it was reported that chicken sales were in line with prior years.
Roasted chicken, called Hendl, is usually the most popular food item and is sold in all of the beer tents, served as a half chicken.
