The Bear
I spend a whole lot of time complaining about the fact that nearly every single show on streaming services these days has gaps between seasons of anywhere from 1.5 to 3 years, with almost none hitting that classic one year gap the way we all used to expect. One of those exceptions? The Bear. And now we have a very close release date for season 4.
Season 4 of The Bear will premiere on June 25 at 8 PM ET, when all ten episodes will be dropped.
This is fully in keeping with The Bear tradition to the letter. Here are the past release dates for all the seasons:
- Season 1 – June 23, 2022
- Season 2 – June 22, 2023
- Season 3 – June 26, 2024
- And now Season 4 – June 25, 2025
Perfection. And all released as binge watches. The literal only difference between any of them is that season 1 had eight episodes instead of ten. There has been no early season 5 renewal of The Bear, but the showrunner has commented that the series isn’t meant to run forever, and five total seasons is a pretty common estimate. But nothing on that front has been confirmed yet.
Why can The Bear keep hitting these marks? Well, talented writers, to be sure, able to work quickly. But they’re shorter episodes and almost all of them are centered on one specific location, The Bear restaurant itself, meaning this isn’t some sprawling production that needs to city/country-hop all around.
One concern I’d have about the show continuing to hit this mark is that The Bear has blown up the profile of its cast, and three of its biggest actors specifically, Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach have now started landing high profile films, with Moss-Bachrach now a literal Fantastic Four member in the MCU. So I am wondering if cast availability may run into any issues if they want to keep hitting this yearly cadence.
It’s a hugely impressive show, not just in terms of its writing, direction and performances, frequently Emmy-worthy, if not Emmy-winning. But its efficiency in remaining relevant year after year with timely production schedules that are nearly unmatched in the industry. When I think about what other shows hit this timetable I always come back to Slow Horses and…not really much else. Supposedly The Pitt is going to try to do this as well, but we’ll see if it can match The Bear.
