Topline
Grok will be available in Tesla vehicles, the company’s CEO Elon Musk announced on his social media platform X on Thursday morning—hours after xAI launched Grok 4, the most recent version of the chatbot that sparked controversy earlier this week after posting in what it called “MechaHitler mode.”
Musk said the feature will be available in vehicles “next week at the latest.
Key Facts
Musk claimed Grok would be available “next week at the latest” in a post on X after a Tesla fan noted the Grok 4 announcement did not mention its use in Teslas.
Tesla has not confirmed an exact timeframe for when the chatbot would be available in its vehicles, or which models would be equipped with the AI tool.
The post came hours after his midnight launch for Grok 4, which Musk claimed is “better than PhD level in every subject” and can outperform similar AI models from OpenAI and Google—but also admitted it might lack “common sense.”
Key Background
The update came only days after Grok began replying to users with controversial language and stereotypes, including praise for Adolf Hitler that the Anti-Defamation League called “irresponsible, dangerous and antisemitic, plain and simple.” At one point, the chatbot said it was responding as “MechaHitler.” In a statement posted on X, xAI said they were “actively working to remove the inappropriate posts” and “action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X.” On Wednesday, X’s CEO Linda Yaccarino announced she was stepping down from her role at the company. She did not elaborate on what led to her abrupt resignation.
Tangent
Tesla also set a date for its annual shareholder meeting on Thursday, scheduling it for November 6 after weeks of building pressure. On Wednesday, the New York Times reported on a letter from some shareholders worried that the company was close to running afoul of Texas law, which requires publicly traded companies to hold annual meetings every 13 months. Tesla’s last shareholder meeting was held in June 2024, before its stock price plummeted after reaching a record high last December.
