TelevisaUnivision is looking to solidify ViX’s position as a global streaming platform and strengthen its reach in Latin America. The company today announced it struck a deal with Colombia’s media programming powerhouse RCN to drive expansion and broaden the service’s presence in that country, through exclusive content on the platform, original local production and promotional support on the network.
ViX sees the agreement as a way to consolidate its presence in Colombia by bringing its successful catalog of global content to a wider audience, while at the same time, tapping the power and popularity of RCN’s local content in the hopes of accelerating adoption to its platform locally and internationally.
“Colombia is one of the main consumer markets in Latin America for ViX. Now with RCN, we seek to replicate the successful expansion strategy we had in the United States and Mexico, where we capitalized on the power and reach of local linear channels to promote and leverage the ViX streaming service,” states Pierluigi Gazzolo, CEO of ViX.
ViX’s deal with RCN includes exclusive access to popular local titles like Ana de Nadie, Colombia’s most watched telenovela and new series Tía Alison, about a tattoo artist who returns to Colombia to care for her nephews, while adjusting to new challenges. These episodes will be available on ViX the day after airing on RCN in Colombia and premiere simultaneously outside the country as a ViX original.
“This agreement with ViX allows us to continue bringing our productions to more audiences, but above all to reaffirm our commitment to continue delivering the best stories with the highest quality standards,” says RCN President José Antonio de Brigard.
As part of the deal, ViX secured exclusive content premieres on its platform, ahead of RCN, starting with the upcoming new series La Sustituta, a story of intrigue and mystery and of three women living together in Casa Urquijo.
The TelevisaUnivision-owned streamer will also expand its overall programming with additional 24/7 RCN channels and on-demand content library with classic and popular titles such as Café con Aroma de Mujer and Chica Vampiro.
ViX’s premium plan will also increase its sports programming by including the Win Sport Básico channel, offering a wide range of sports events including Colombian soccer matches, cycling, motor racing and tennis.
The partnership will boost ViX’s marketing and promotional activities in Colombia, giving the start-up streamer greater visibility across RCN’s multiple platforms.
