Among this year’s TelevisaUnivision Upfront reveals, the company announced it nabbed the U.S. Spanish-language rights to broadcast its first ever Super Bowl, will continue to bolster original series offerings for its rapidly growing global streaming platform ViX and expand live and reality programming.
Super Bowl LVIII will be the first NFL game to air on Univision network. Fox Deportes had the rights in 2022 and Telemundo network aired the Big Game before that. Also on the sports front, it will broadcast the 48th edition of Copa America, hosted in the U.S., on TUDN and TelevisaUnivision platforms from June 14th to July 14, 2024.
With ViX CEO Pierluigi Gazzolo disclosing the streaming platform has over 30 million monthly active users globally, increasing content offerings to keep growing an on-demand audience makes sense. For the new season, the company is highlighting the development of Circo Gomez, an animated series produced by Eugenio Derbez’s 3Pas Studios, as part of its first-look deal with the actor. Derbez will voice the comedy about a dysfunctional family that runs a shoddy traveling circus.
Also coming to ViX in 2024 is the remake of El Extraño Retorno de Diana Salazar, starring Angelique Boyer and Sebastian Rulli, about two soulmates trapped in the threshold between life and death over several centuries. The original, from Televisa, is a blast from the past that dates back to 1988, which starred legendary Mexican telenovela actress Lucía Méndez and Argentine actor Jorge Martínez.
ViX will also premiere Señales del Crimen, a new true crime series hosted by Univision anchor Ilia Calderón.
