The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles square off against Godzilla, king of monsters, in a crossover … More
The world’s two favorite multibillion dollar reptile franchises, Nickelodeon’s heroes on the half-shell, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Toho’s Godzilla, the king of monsters, will collide in a new mini-series due out this November from IDW Publishing, the company announced today at a San Diego Comic-Convention panel that also kicked off a new era and a new Godzilla #1.
According to the announcement, the Godzilla crossover series reveals that the original purpose of the Foot Clan was to protect Japan from the giant monsters known as kaiju, of whom Godzilla is the most fearsome. When Godzilla and pals reappear, the Foot Clan is not only unprepared to stop them, but their current leader, long-time Turtle-hater Shredder, may even be behind the attacks! Could he be after some genetic secret of the kaiju that would allow him to engineer upgraded henchmen capable of accomplishing his evil schemes?
Luckily Leonardo, Raphael, Michaelangelo and Donatello are on the case, high-tailing it to Japan to confront their fiercest foe yet: a certain hundred-foot tall scaly beast with radioactive halitosis. Can they tame the kaiju and stop Shredder’s evil scheme? Spoilers: probably, but it will be lots of fun to watch them try.
Writer Tim Seeley and artist Fero Pe lead the creative team behind the project for IDW. Seeley has written IDW’s top-selling, fan-favorite ongoing Godzilla series. Pe drew the popular TMNT x Stranger Things crossover in 2023.
“There are maybe two or three other ideas in the entire cultural landscape that are as instantly iconic, as perfect in their clarity and conception, as the King of the Monsters and the heroes in a half-shell,” said Jake Williams, editor of the series for IDW, who had words of praise for his creative team. “Mashing them up has been a complete and utter joy. These characters are so perfectly realized that working on this comic feels like bearing witness to a natural encounter between living and breathing beings.”

IDW, historically a top-5 publisher of comics and graphic novels over the past few decades, has recently ridden back to success thanks to its work on licensed books like TMNT and Godzilla. IDW’s Kai-Sei era, the new Godzilla shared universe, is their top-selling title yet, with more than 80k orders for the debut issue of the new ongoing series.
The crossover continues a recent popular industry trend of mashing up characters from different franchises and universes.

Godzilla is no stranger to these kinds of events. Thanks to the success of Toho’s much-anticipated Godzilla: Minus One in 2023, and the ongoing monsters franchise from Legendary, the already-enormous kaiju is bigger than ever, and has been stomping a path of destruction through the comics industry. DC and Marvel have both pitted their superheroes against Big Green, and Legendary has published in-universe comics tied to their own continuity around the character. The division of Godzilla lore into various “eras” helps keep these storylines on their own tracks.
At SDCC, Godzilla licensor Toho is hosting a bunch of events and announcing new product partnerships including:
- A Godzilla pop up experience and store takeover at the San Diego location of toy partner Super 7, in the Gaslamp district nearby the San Diego Convention Center.
- An in-store signing with Shinji Higuchi, director of Shin Godzilla, at the store on Friday, July 25 at 11am.
- An exclusive Godzilla figure from Bandai Namco’s Bandai Tamashi line, along with special limited-edition posters.
- Two new soft vinyl figures, Hedorah Godzilla and AP Godzilla, from Mondo.
The first issue of IDW’s TMNT x Godzilla goes on sale November 12, 2025. Retailers are encouraged to get orders in by October 6. Fans can find it at their local comics shop.
