Taylor Swift’s Sales Surge As She Teases ‘Reputation (Taylor’s Version)’

It’s now been a year and a half since Taylor Swift last shared one of her re-released albums under the “Taylor’s Versions” moniker. The project started several years ago, and its aim is so she can reclaim some control over the music that made her a global superstar after the rights to all those full-lengths and songs were sold multiple times. She has already issued re-recordings of four of her first six studio sets, with only her self-titled debut and Reputation left to go. Among fans, the assumption is that the latter will arrive next.

There have been countless hints and teases suggesting that Reputation (Taylor’s Version) is coming soon. Despite the ongoing speculation, however, no release date has been officially announced. Excitingly for Swifties everywhere, perhaps the biggest clue that the project may not be delayed much longer emerged earlier this week — and interest in the album has surged once again.

Reputation and Its Lead Single Surge in Sales Once More

On Tuesday (May 20), Hulu released a teaser for the upcoming episode of the current season of The Handmaid’s Tale. The brief preview includes a re-recording of “Look What You Made Me Do,” the lead single that originally introduced Reputation in 2017.

Unsurprisingly, the internet went crazy when the visual arrived, and Swifties immediately interpreted this as confirmation that Reputation (Taylor’s Version) is on the horizon. In true Swift fashion, the singer-songwriter has yet to confirm or deny anything.

“Look What You Made Me Do” Becomes a Bestseller Again

Following the teaser’s release, the original version of “Look What You Made Me Do” made a swift return to the iTunes chart in America. As of the time of writing, the track sits at No. 53 — a lofty placement for a tune that debuted nearly seven years ago.

Reputation Gains on the Album Chart

Swift typically performs well on the iTunes top albums ranking, but this moment is especially thrilling following the Handmaid’s Tale teaser. Several of her full-lengths are on the rise – and of them, Reputation has gained the most ground. The project currently lands at No. 90, climbing by almost as many spaces as interest in the largely-electronic release grows exponentially.

The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, also jumps more than 30 spaces in the wake of the teaser trailer. Meanwhile, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) — the deluxe edition — sits just one spot ahead of Reputation. Other Swift efforts like Lover and Midnights (Til Dawn Edition) are also present on the 200-position tally of bestselling full-lengths and EPs in the U.S. on the download store.
