Taylor Swift’s Concert Film Will Be Available To Rent Sooner Than Expected

Taylor Swift’s concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, is still captivating audiences in theaters, but soon fans of the singer will be able to enjoy the experience from the comfort of their homes much sooner than anticipated.

Swift took to social media to share the exciting news, revealing that the concert film will start streaming on December 13. That conveniently—but certainly not coincidentally—aligns with her birthday.

In her announcement, Swift expressed her gratitude for the shared experiences of the past year and considered the at-home release as a fun way to celebrate. Below a trailer for the film, she wrote:

Instagram

“Hi! Well, so, basically I have a birthday coming up and I was thinking a fun way to celebrate the year we’ve had together would be to make The Eras Tour Concert Film available for you to watch at home!”

Fans who rent Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour to watch at home will be treated to a longer version—perhaps known as Taylor’s Version—than was played in cinemas. The extended cut of the film is set to include bonus performances of “Wildest Dreams,” “The Archer,” and “Long Live.”

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will be available to rent on demand in the U.S., Canada, and additional countries to be announced soon. Swift specifically stated that viewers will be able to rent the movie, not necessarily buy—though that might have simply been an omission on her part.

The swift turnaround from theatrical release to at-home streaming is indeed surprising. Initial reports, based on contractual information between the singer and AMC, suggested that the movie wouldn’t be available for home viewing until at least January. Whether those reports were inaccurate or plans between the superstar and her distribution partners changed is unclear.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour achieved remarkable success at the global box office, setting a new record for the highest-grossing concert film of all time in the U.S. after just its opening weekend. Since then, it has continued its triumphant journey, earning nearly a quarter of a billion dollars at the box office.
