Taylor Swift fans were in for a treat a little over a week ago when the artist surprised them with several new songs. It seems like the fans were pleased with what they heard as one of the tracks makes a noticeable debut on the Hot 100 chart this week. The promotional single, titled “All of the Girls You Loved Before,” almost earned Swift yet another placement inside the most competitive space on the chart, just barely missing the mark.
According to Billboard, “All of the Girls You Loved Before” debuts at No. 12 on this week’s Hot 100, earning the loftiest beginning of this frame. The track missed becoming the star’s forty-first top 10 smash by just two spaces.
The tune was released on March 17, with little warning, along with three other cuts. Among these tracks were three re-recordings, including a pair of cuts she wrote and recorded specifically for The Hunger Games soundtrack, which was released more than a decade ago. Both “Eyes Open” and “Safe & Sound,” which credit musicians Joy Williams and John Paul White as featured acts, were initially made for that film.
The other song Swift released with only a little heads-up was a new version of “If This Was a Movie.” The cut was originally released as a track on the deluxe edition of Swift’s third album Speak Now, and now it’s gotten the (Taylor’s Version) treatment, meaning she owns this take of the cut.
While not much was said by Swift about her new smash hit, the cover used on YouTube for “All of the Girls You Loved Before” is from her album Lover, so it appears the cut was written and recorded around that time.
“All of the Girls You Loved Before” will likely also appear on another Billboard chart or two. It will almost surely appear inside the top 10 on the Digital Song Sales ranking, as those purchases helped propel it to the Hot 100. Seeing how well “All of the Girls You Loved Before” performed, Swift and her team might decide to promote it to radio, though she is still busy servicing songs from her Midnights album, so she might not want to mix things up too much.
