Taylor Swift Has One Very Good Reason To Release A Single Very Soon

Taylor Swift recently took to her boyfriend’s New Heights podcast to announce The Life of a Showgirl, her upcoming twelfth album of original material. She held up a copy of the set, but it was blurred out, so fans don’t yet know what the cover looks like. The singer-songwriter was careful not to confirm a release date, either.

Very few details were given about the project, but that didn’t stop the title from trending online. While Swift hasn’t shared when the world will hear The Life of a Showgirl, there’s one good reason to believe that at least one song from the project might drop this month.

Grammy Eligibility Closes Soon

Eligibility for the 2026 Grammy Awards closes at the end of August. With only about two weeks left for musicians to share material, Swift — who hasn’t released new music this year — may be looking to rectify the situation she finds herself in. If she delivers a single before September 1, she can submit it in various Grammy categories.

The Life of a Showgirl May Be a Pop Album

There have been rumors that The Life of a Showgirl will be a pure pop project. While Swift hasn’t confirmed this, she recently shared a Spotify playlist built entirely around songs she composed with super-producers Max Martin and Shellback, such as “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “Blank Space” and “Shake It Off,” among more than a dozen others. Those two are among the most reliable hitmakers in pop history, and her not-so-subtle hint suggests that the album will be a top 40-ready pop set.

Taylor Swift May Compete for Pop Grammys

If Swift shares a single in time, she could compete in major fields such as Record and Song of the Year, neither of which she’s ever won. Depending on whether the track is solo or collaborative, she could submit it for either Best Pop Solo Performance or Best Pop Duo/Group Performance – if she is, in fact, returning to pure pop. The song’s music video could also be in the running for Best Music Video, which she has won in the past.

The Life of a Showgirl Likely Won’t Be Up for Albums Awards

It’s likely that The Life of a Showgirl won’t arrive in time to compete for any album awards at the Grammys, and will instead be eligible the following year. Pre-orders for physical copies are already live on Swift’s website, with a description stating that orders will ship by October 13 — surely meaning the album will drop in mid-October.

Taylor Swift’s Night at the 2025 Grammys

Swift was nominated for six Grammys at the 2025 ceremony. The Tortured Poets Department was up for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album, while lead single “Fortnight” with Post Malone earned nods for Record and Song of the Year, as well as Best Music Video. Her duet with Gracie Abrams, “Us.,” was also nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. She didn’t take home any honors that night, but claimed a pair of trophies the year prior, when Midnights won Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.
