Taylor Swift Brings Three Albums Back To The Sales Chart At Once

Taylor Swift may be one of the bestselling musicians of all time, but she doesn’t always claim a bestseller in America. The singer-songwriter returns to Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart this week with multiple collections. In doing so, she finds her way back to a ranking she’s dominated many times in the past — and where she usually occupies several spaces. The superstar proves her unmatched ability to sell albums by consistently moving copies of years-old LPs, which helps her stand apart from so many other names in the music industry.

Only Three Wins for Taylor Swift on The Sales Chart

Swift occupies just three spaces on the Top Album Sales chart this frame, which is still more than most artists will at one time in their entire careers. That list focuses solely on the bestselling collections and EPs in the U.S., based on a combination of digital purchases and physical formats. This time around, the only three placements she earns are comebacks — and two of them just barely make the cut.

Her highest-ranking title at the moment is Folklore, which re-enters at No. 38. Her next two bestsellers — The Tortured Poets Department and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) — sit side-by-side at Nos. 48 and 49, respectively, on the 50-position tally.

Folklore Leads Taylor Swift’s Album Sales

Amazingly, Folklore ranks as Swift’s bestselling album in America right now, even though it declines more than 26% in total purchases from the previous frame. Luminate reports that it sold just under 2,300 copies in the past period, down from nearly 3,100 copies just days before.

The Tortured Poets Department and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) both fell sharply as well, slipping 22% and 10%, respectively. In terms of actual sales, those albums moved just under 2,100 copies each last week in the U.S.

Record Store Day Declines Bring Taylor Swift Back

If all three of Taylor Swift’s bestselling albums are declining in terms of sales, how can they return to the Top Album Sales chart? The prior frame was filled with special offerings that were part of Record Store Day. The music industry initiative sees many well-known stars — including Swift this year — drop new music and re-releases on vinyl and CD. These exclusive editions encourage fans to visit record stores and usually come in limited quantities.

As a result, the week following Record Store Day, the Billboard rankings are often dominated by these one-time releases. Then, just as quickly as they arrive, they disappear, creating a vacuum that allows classic titles to return.

Seven Taylor Swift Albums Chart on Billboard 200

While she fills just a trio of spots on the Top Album Sales chart, Swift is far more present on the Billboard 200, which combines both sales and streaming activity to reflect what America is listening to. On that ranking, she currently occupies seven spaces: The Tortured Poets Department (No. 11), Lover (No. 52), Folklore (No. 64), Midnights (No. 65), 1989 (Taylor’s Version) (No. 70), Reputation (No. 115) and Red (Taylor’s Version) (No. 159).
