Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the long-awaited sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which released way back in 2019, which feels like a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
I gave that game a 9.5/10 when I revied it, praising its Souls-like gameplay and exploration and solid Star Wars adventure story. While it wasn’t quite perfect, it was still the best Star Wars game I’d played in years and I really loved the lightsaber combat, the exciting planets to explore and the great boss fights, including one shocking final boss.
I also loved Cal Kestis, the Jedi Padawan (played by Cameron Monaghan) whose story these games center around. Kestis is a survivor of Order 66, which was Emperor Palpatine’s first major blow against the Republic and the Jedi Order and saw the decimation of the Jedi across the galaxy.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place five years after the events of Fallen Order with a more grizzled, experienced Kestis taking on an even more dangerous Empire. New combat stances, more expansive level design and new challenges and cosmetic options all make this game sound bigger, better and more fully-realized than the last one. A new gameplay trailer from Star Wars Celebration shows off what you can expect:
That looks absolutely wild. When the first game came out, I thought it was among the best Star Wars stories since the original trilogy, rivaled only by The Mandalorian and Rogue One. Andor has significantly raised the bar across Star Wars (and Ahsoka looks pretty good, too!) but this certainly seems to be right up there with the best Star Wars has to offer. I’m already adding it to my list of potential Game Of The Year contenders.
We’ll know for sure on April 28th when the game releases on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game is decidedly next-gen, not offering an older version for PS4 or Xbox One. The PC requirements are also quite demanding. Pretty exciting! I’ll be reviewing here on this blog so stay tuned.
