Suga’s Debut Album Sold More Than One Million Copies In Korea In One Day

Fans of both BTS and Suga as a soloist have been waiting for new music from their favorite for some time, and now that it’s out, they wasted no time in proving their loyalty by snapping up the latest from the global superstar–so much so that they’ve helped him hit some truly remarkable numbers.

Suga’s debut solo album D-Day has become an instant massive sales success in South Korea, the musician’s home country. The set was released on Friday (April 21), and in just its first full day of availability, it has already sold more than one million copies, according to the Hanteo real-time physical album sales chart.

The album occupies the top two spots on the chart, as two versions were released, and nothing else comes even close to giving D-Day a run for the highest spaces on the tally. In fact, the third-bestselling title of the day in South Korea only managed just under 60,000 copies–still a healthy sum, but nowhere near as huge as Suga’s win.

The total number of copies D-Day sold in its first day could possibly increase further in the coming hours as the numbers are still being tabulated, but as of 11:59 PM in South Korea, the project had sold just over 1.071 million copies. That easily makes it one of the most successful debut albums in the country’s history.

Hanteo manages one of the two most important and closely-watched music charts in South Korea, with the other being Circle, formerly known as Gaon. Hanteo’s chart is sometimes monitored more carefully by fans on the day of a title’s release as it offers real-time updates, as opposed to waiting a week or more to report figures, which is more common in the Western world. This makes it a more accurate representation of how an album is performing in its first few hours of release.

D-Day was released under the name Agust D, a moniker Suga uses when producing music outside of BTS. It is his third solo collection, but the first two were labeled as mixtapes, so the fact that this is his first album surely spurred some fans to rush to grab a copy the moment it was available.
