Stray Kids continue to make their presence known in the U.K. as their latest album, 5-Star, and its lead single, “S-Class,” achieve significant placement this week. The full-length’s success ties the rising group with another successful South Korean act, Blackpink, on the U.K. albums chart, as they have now earned several wins on the tally in a relatively short span of time.
5-Star enters the U.K. albums chart at No. 40. This placement marks a new high for Stray Kids, as it is their first album to reach the top 40 region. While the group may be relatively new to this particular ranking, 5-Star is their third project to secure a spot on the U.K. albums chart, showcasing their growing popularity and influence.
With their third album making its mark, Stray Kids are now tied with Blackpink for the second-most placements on the U.K. albums chart among South Korean acts. Blackpink has also secured three placements on the chart. However, it is worth noting that the girl group has achieved higher chart positions than their counterparts. Two of their albums have reached the top 10, with one even claiming the No. 1 spot.
The only South Korean act to have garnered more appearances on the U.K. albums chart is BTS. The seven-member boy band has managed to place 11 different collections, including EPs, compilations, and albums, on the chart. Their double-digit placements set them apart from other K-pop groups, and it is unlikely that their record will be surpassed anytime soon.
Stray Kids made their mark on the U.K. albums chart last year with not one, but two releases. In March 2022, their album Oddinary debuted at No. 95, followed by Maxident, which reached a higher peak at No. 85 just over six months later.
With 5-Star becoming their third hit album in the U.K., Stray Kids have now surpassed Suga, a prominent member of BTS known for his solo work under the moniker Agust D. Suga has secured two wins on the U.K. albums chart, and Stray Kids’ have now beaten him by one win, at least for the moment.
