Another day, another announcement of a new TV series.
Cable network STARZ has greenlit the new romantic-themed psychological drama The Venery of Samantha Bird, created by Anna Moriarty, who also serves as executive producer, and starring Australian actress Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why).
The logline: Visiting family in New England, Samantha Bird (Langford) reconnects with her childhood sweetheart and falls headlong into a seemingly perfect storybook romance. But underneath their fever dream lurks a more unsettling interpretation of this affair.
Described as a “haunting portrayal of addictive love and the repercussions that a relationship has on the families in a small New England town,” eight episodes of The Venery of Samantha Bird have been ordered.
Katherine Langford, at present, is featured in Australian crime drama Savage River. She is known for her portrayal Hannah Baker in 13 Reasons Why on Netflix, as well as roles in dramas Knives Out, Love, Simon, Spontaneous, and Cursed.
Salvatore Stabile (Waco) is showrunner and executive producer of The Venery of Samantha Bird. Jessica Rhoades (Station Eleven, Sharp Objects) executive produces through her Pacesetter Productions shingle, with Rachel Polan serving as co-executive producer. Jessica Yu (Fosse/Verdon, Billions) is a consulting producer.
Karen Bailey, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, is the executive overseeing for STARZ, and Max Elins is overseeing for Lionsgate. The series, which is expected to debut in 2023, is produced by Lionsgate Television and Paramount Television Studios.
