Imagine if you idolized an idol. You spent much of your down time thinking about this performer. Then imagine how you might feel if your bias showed up unannounced at your workplace. That’s what happens in the new drama My Bias Is Showing, which is based on the Tappytoon webtoon of the same name. The BL or Boys Love drama stars actor Kim Kang-min (The Red Sleeve, My Roommate Is A Gumiho) and Omega X member Kevin in his first acting role. Kim plays Choi Si-yeol, a beloved member of the idol group A-One. He’s tall, handsome and exceptionally talented. Kevin plays Na Ae-jun, a high school teacher who fanboys over A-One. Life is never going to be the same after he meets his bias in person.
Ironically, Kim plays the idol and Kevin, an actual member of an idol group, plays the teacher. However, Kevin didn’t need to give his co-star any tips on playing an idol since he easily captured the look
“Actually I’ve never seen him acting as an idol and for the drama, I wasn’t on the set with him during those scenes,” said Kevin. “But I did see him while he was shooting for the poster, while dressed up as an idol and full set up and everything. I thought, wow, he could just be on the stage and perform right now. He just looks perfect as an idol.”
Kim has more acting experience than Kevin, but he waited before offering the newcomer any advice. He wanted them to become closer.
“At first, honestly, we were still getting to know each other and we were still learning about each other,” said Kim. “I was being a little bit careful in order for us to really build our chemistry together for the drama. But as the shooting progressed, I got to pick up some tips to give to him and share some knowhow from my personal experience as well. I think it was just a matter of time.”

Kevin has some experience interacting with k-pop fans.
“I do have fans from my idol experience,” said Kevin. “I got to think, what if the situation from the drama actually happened in real life? What would it feel like? Personally, I’d feel very shy. I’d feel like, oh, I want my fans to notice me, but at the same time I kind of want to hide because I’m too shy to meet them in person, just one-on-one. Those would be some conflicting emotions that I would personally feel whenever that situation actually happens in real life.”
Kim encountered fans back in his modeling days.
“As a model I made a debut at the Seoul Fashion Week,” he said. “There were some fans who found me, who came to visit me on the spot all of a sudden. That was completely unexpected, but I felt very grateful and I was very touched to see that I have fans who are visiting and spending time with me. I got to think a lot about what if I were the fan? What if I were the fan for an idol or a model or actor and I were to visit their workplace all of a sudden? But I feel like it’s still the same thing. No matter if you’re a fan or a celebrity, I feel like that moment of that sweetness and that gratefulness and that appreciation of meeting your idol and vice versa, meeting your fan, would still remain the same no matter what situation you are in.”
Kevin still performs with Omega X. The k-pop band’s first sub-unit group, OX:N recently released their first EP, N, making it the group’s first release in 2025. It’s about seven months since the group released their second Japanese mini-album, To.

Kevin is the fourth member of the 11-member group to star in a BL drama, romantic stories about young men falling in love, which are often written by women and mainly attract a female audience. Throughout the last two decades, BL dramas have surged in popularity throughout Asia. Fellow Omega X members Jaehan and Yechan appeared in the drama A Shoulder to Cry On, Han-gyeom had his first acting role in Jazz for Two. Kevin wasn’t necessarily motivated by their experiences.
“I originally always wanted to try acting when I was promoting as an idol too,” said Kevin. “Through a good opportunity, I got to know this drama, and thankfully I heard a lot that I actually resembled the main character from the original webtoon in the drama as well.”
Kim’s goal as an actor is to try as many genres and characters as possible.
“After reviewing the whole synopsis and everything, I definitely thought that this drama would be very helpful as an actor for me in my career,” he said. “Every new experience is very precious, so you cannot really measure it with any means of money or anything else. It’s just a very valuable experience in life. I just wanted to take it and really wanted to take it as a challenge for myself.”
As a rookie actor, Kevin’s first time on set was disorienting, but he eventually relaxed into the role.
“As I was getting into the set and getting to experience more as an actor, I really found it very entertaining and very exciting,” said Kevin. “Toward the end, I got to be more relaxed and I got to learn how to really enjoy acting throughout and acting with everyone else. If you watch the drama, actually the last scene that we filmed for the drama was inside of my character’s house, I think you’ll find me more relaxed, being more comfortable in that scene. So yeah, I definitely had some regrets, some things that I feel like, oh, I could have done better in this scene, as we were wrapping up the shoot. But overall it was a very interesting and very exciting experience for me.”

One of Kim’s favorite scenes in the drama took place when he was acting as an idol.
“I was filming as an idol,” he said. “Being on the stage and the full idol outfit and everything is something that I have never experienced and I never expected that I would experience. But through this drama I was able to, and that felt very special to me because I thought, oh, this is maybe once in a lifetime, when can I ever be an idol again?”
In another memorable scene he grabs Kevin’s character Ae-jun. He becomes very emotional and cries.
“Love can be defined as something between your family, your friends or your lovers,” said Kim. “It can be applied to pretty much any situation. When I was acting, my whole intention was that I really need to get hold of Ae-jun and I don’t want to lose him. That was the main emotion behind my whole being when I really got into acting that scene. That was a moment that I got to learn once again what it feels like to be longing for someone and to feel like, oh, I don’t want to lose this person. That felt very special to me.”
“I feel like love cannot really be defined into one thing,” said Kevin. “It’s a very universal term.”
He’s fond of stories in which people fall in love, regardless of who it is.
“I think it’s just mesmerizing to see how someone gets to love someone else,” said Kevin. “So purely with all their hearts, it’s a very amazing thing to see. That’s how BL dramas—or any love stories, really—draw the audience in, because they’re so pure. It’s about people and it’s about that emotion, that universal emotion that everybody can relate to.”
Something Kim really liked about the drama is that it features four unique characters.
“They have their own characteristics and they have their own charms,” he said.
As well as Se-yeol and Ae-jun, there’s Yeon Joo-ha, a former member of Se-yeol’s band A-One, played by Byung Hun (Joseon Attorney, When My Love Blooms). Kim Hong Jun (Missing Nine, Saimdang) plays Ji Kyu-sung, the manager of A-One.
Kim is sure viewers will find the drama’s romances to be charming and appealing.
“The chemistry that we got to build among the members while filming was very naturally adapted to the drama as well,” he said.
My Bias Is Showing airs on August 29th via iQIYI and GagaOOLala, plus FOD for Japan.
