Don’t dismiss the power of young adult romance…and a multilingual global audience. Through My Window: Across the Sea (A través del Mar), zoomed to the top of Netflix’s Global Top 10 non-English list since its June 23 premiere.
The highly anticipated sequel to 2022’s hugely popular Through My Window (A través de Mi Ventana) that continues the love story of Raquel and Ares (Clara Galle and Julio Peña), who first bonded through a wifi connection, debuted at No. 1 with 14.5M views in its first two days on the platform.
It also was the No 2. film regardless of language, behind Extraction 2, in most Latin American countries and even some in Europe, including Spain, France, Italy and Austria, among others. It was also among the top 10 in various other European, Asian and African countries.
The original film, which got 34 million views during its first week in February 2022 – dropped just in time for Valentine’s Day and remained in the top 10 for 12 consecutive weeks – also returned for its 14th week on the list with 2.6M views.
Through My Window: Across the Sea is the second chapter of the hit YA romance, based on Venezuelan author Ariana Godoy’s hugely popular Wattpad novel, a worldwide hit on the online literature platform with more than 300 million reads prior to the first movie’s 2022 debut. The success of Through My Window which became the streamer’s fourth most popular non-English film of 2022, led Netflix to quickly greenlit two sequels.
In Across the Sea, the young lovers are in a long-distance relationship while Ares is studying in Stockholm and finally reunite during the summer. But as they begin new adventures with their friends, the couple begins to question whether their relationship can endure the test of time.
Returning cast members include: Eric Masip (Artemis) and Hugo Arbués (Apollo) as Ares’ siblings, Natalia Azahara (Daniela) and Guillermo Lasheras (Yoshi) as Raquel’s friends, and Emilia Lazo as Claudia, the Hidalgo family’s employee. Andrea Chaparro, Ivan Lapadula and Carla Tous are three new characters who will play a role in the evolution Raquel and Ares’ relationship.
