Arielle Charnas, a.k.a. Something Navy, has a new collaboration under her size 8 belt: Something Navy X Superga. Two years in the making, the collection consists of three syles in three colorways and includes a Mommy and Me component.
“Two ago I started partnering with them. It was very organic for me because I already had Supergas in my wardrobe,” said Charnas. “The natural next step was collaborating on something of our own. We’re also doing something with them for holiday.
“This is my first sneaker collaboration,” Charnas added. “Sneakers are such a big trend right now. We’ve done collaborations with TK for food. We’re relaunching another collaboration with TK?, and a collaboration on accessories.
Charnas’ daughters, Ruby and Esme are longtime Superga fans, Charnas said. “Since they’re into Surpergas I’ve been buying Supergas for them,” she noted. “The Mommy and Me sneakers all have velcro closures. I did all three kids styles with velcro.”
Charnas and Superga designed one high top, one low top and one laceup for each style. There are two in corduroy and one in leather. “We have very exciting collaborations coming out,” Charnas said. “We’re launching Superga on Sept. 6, on the 8th we’re launching our first September drop – matching sweat sets for adults and kids.
“Our entire August collection looked so good with sneakers, from suits, to dresses. September 8th is the launch of Mommy and Me sweat sets. I have to get my mom a pair of Supergas. They’re so cute.”
As far as the design process, Charnas, who is chief creative officer of Something Navy, said the project was a group effort. “In terms of design and styling, I was ingrained with Superga. The sneaker company come up with initial ideas and we bounced around. I would not be able to do it without the girls on my team.
“We were thinking of the fabrics we love for fall,” Charnas added. “It was something different. They pretty much presented options as soon as we developed mood boards they acted on them.”
Something Navy has never been at a loss for partners. Some collaborations are coming full circle and reprising the partnership. “We’ve had a few this year that were second rounds of partnership,” Charnas said. “A Pea in the Pod and Cotton were very natural. You have to find different ways to keep it exciting. I love working with Superga and I love the sneaker. We’re doing a second Ba&sh collection. It really speaks to our team. That’s really important for a brand partner and they wear many hats that they don’t have to.”
The collaboration is available at SomethingNavy.com, Superga.com and Rakuten.“I have to get my mom a pair,” Charnas said. “They’re so cute.”
