Redferns
A little over a quarter century ago, Slipknot burst onto the nu metal scene. The band was one of several that helped popularize the new take on rock music, and the group’s namesake full-length is at this point historically significant – and amazingly, still popular.
Slipknot, the album, returns to multiple charts in the United Kingdom this week thanks to an anniversary reissue, one which even helps the set become a No. 1.
Slipknot Back at No. 1
Slipknot reappears at No. 1 on the Official Rock and Metal Albums chart. This frame marks just the title’s second ever leading the list of bestselling full-lengths and EPs in those styles throughout the U.K.
More Than 25 Years Ago
Slipknot debuted its self-titled full-length on the Official Rock and Metal Albums chart in July 1999. The set opened in fourth place and finally reached No. 1 in April 2022. Slipknot’s classic has now spent 216 frames on the list, and 53 of those weeks – a little more than a year – have been inside the top 10.
Slipknot Reappears on Multiple Charts
Slipknot doesn’t only returns to the top 10 on one U.K.-based tally, but comes close to reaching the highest tier on three others. The self-titled effort reenters the Official Vinyl Albums list at No. 11 and comes in at No. 12 on both the Official Album Sales and Official Physical Albums charts.
Slipknot returns to its all-time peak on the roster that looks only at purchases on any physical format. At the same time, the set reaches a new all-time high on the list that focuses on any kind of purchase on any format in the U.K.
Slipknot is Back on the Albums Chart
The band’s self-titled affair also breaks back onto the Official Albums chart, the most competitive tally for projects in the U.K. On that roster, where Slipknot has previously topped out at No. 37 in the 25 weeks it’s spent somewhere on the 100-space ranking, the bestseller is back at No. 71.
Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Edition
Earlier this month, Slipknot released a twenty-fifth anniversary edition of its self-titled album. The lengthy set includes 59 tracks, 40 of which fans have not heard before. A box set was made available – and clearly sold very well – and that offering includes the original album, as well as various demos, different mixes, and live recordings. Slipknot even sold vinyl copies that featured liquid blood in them, and they reportedly sold out immediately.
Delayed Celebration for Slipknot
The band’s box set and special re-release comes a bit late. Slipknot was delivered in 1999, which made last year its twenty-fifth anniversary. The band toured the star-making project at the time, but the vinyl copies weren’t made available until only recently.
