Once gain, Uncharted and Purple Hearts have captured the premiere spots on today’s Top 10 charts popular films on Netflix. But the true story belongs to Sing 2, which is quietly on the verge of reaching a milestone never before achieved by any movie on Netflix.
Here’s how today’s Top 10 rankings shook out:
- Uncharted
- Purple Hearts
- The Informer
- Sing 2
- Flight
- The Gray Man
- Wedding Season
- The Nice Guys
- Carter
- The Age of Adaline
You’ll notice that Sing 2 is in the fourth-place position—which is nothing spectacular. It’s a far cry from its early days of supremacy back in late June and early July when the film spent ten non-consecutive days in the #1 position.
But when you take a closer look, that fourth-place finish is pretty spectacular…for a film on its 50th day on the Top 10 charts.
Yup, that’s right. Today marks Sing 2’s 50th consecutive day on the Top 10 charts. That’s a feat only matched by five other films—which means Sing 2 is within striking distance of becoming the most consistently popular film on Netflix in the Top 10 era (which began in February 2020).
Here are the ten longest Top 10 streaks in Netflix history:
- We Can Be Heroes – 66 days
- The Mitchells vs. The Machines – 63 days
- Vivo – 58 days
- The Grinch – 56 days
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas – 51 days
- Sing 2 – 50 days
- Despicable Me – 49 days
- 365 Days – 45 days
- Home – 40 days
- The Christmas Chronicles 2 – 37 days
It’s actually quite significant for Sing 2 to pass Despicable Me—a film you could argue has been the most successful of any in the Top 10 era. Despicable Me has spent 140 non-consecutive days on the Top 10 charts, which is more than any other film. So if Sing 2 stays on Netflix for a significant period of time, it could replace Despicable Me as the top dog.
Sing 2 needs just two more days to pass How the Grinch Stole Christmas, one more week to pass The Grinch and Vivo, and two more weeks to pass The Mitchells vs. The Machines. If Sing 2 can do all that, it’ll become the most consistently popular animated film on Netflix in the Top 10 era. And if it can hold out for four more days after that, Sing 2 will pass We Can Be Heroes and own sole possession of the record.
It’s not that crazy to imagine any of this happening. As I said, it’s pretty crazy for Sing 2 to rank this highly on its 50th day. The worst position in which Sing 2 has placed since its June 22 debut is eighth place earlier this week. But it didn’t take long for the film to bounce back, proving that content targeted at children has immense staying power on Netflix.
At this point, we’re just counting down the days. If Sing 2 can hold on for 17 more days, then it’ll stand above all other movies that have played on Netflix in the past two-and-a-half years.
