Showtime Renews ‘Yellowjackets’ For Season Three

Showtime has greenlit the scripted drama Yellowjackets for a third season ahead of its sophomore season launch on Friday, March 23. Debuting in November 2021 and created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, the thriller follows a team of New Jersey high school soccer players in 1996 who travel to Seattle for a national tournament. While flying over Canada, their airplane crashes deep in the wilderness and the remaining team members are left to survive. The series chronicles their attempts to survive while also tracking their current lives in 2021.

“With Yellowjackets’ runaway success in season one and the pent-up anticipation for season two, we wanted to maximize the momentum by fast tracking season three now,” said Chris McCarthy, President/CEO, Showtime and Paramount Media Networks in a statement. “The show’s ambition is only exceeded by its execution, and I thank the incredible creative team behind it.”

Season one of Yellowjackets, which consisted of 10 initial episodes, was nominated for seven Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Melanie Lynskey), and Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Christina Ricci).

The ensemble cast includes Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Sammi Hanratty, Liv Hewson, and Courtney Eaton as the group of teenagers involved the plane crash; and Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose, and Simone Kessell as their adult counterparts (in addition to Lynskey and Ricci). Ella Purnell, Steven Krueger, Warren Koke, and Kevin Alves are also featured; and Elijah Wood has joined the cast in season two.

Produced for Showtime by studio Entertainment One (eOne), Yellowjackets is currently in production in Vancouver, Canada. The number of new episodes ordered for season three has not been confirmed.
