Forbes Ranking: America’s Top CPAs in Valuation Services 2025
“There is no such a thing as risk-free rates anymore.”
It’s often said apples don’t fall far from trees. But sometimes that tiny bit of distance holds immense value.
Case in point: When Alan Fiske, founder of CPA firm Fiske & Company, began mentoring his daughter to join him in the accounting business, he encouraged her to pursue her Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) credentials, in the hope that she might one day launch a niche practice in litigation and valuation within the firm.
In 1990, she joined her father’s firm. Since then, Sheri Fiske Shultz has not only become the first chair of the Valuation Litigation Section of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, where she participates in the FICPA’s valuation litigation conference annually, she has also attained prominent leadership roles within the American Institute of CPAs, serving on the business valuation committee, where she assisted in writing the business valuation standards as well as chairing the Accredited in Business Valuation Champion program.
Indeed, Shultz is as fully invested in the field of valuations as a CPA can be. A frequent speaker on both business valuation and forensic accounting, she has published articles on both for the likes of The South Florida Business Journal, the Daily Business Review, the South Florida Legal Guide and the Broward Barrister. She provides expert witness testimony and consulting services in complex estate and accounting cases, and still finds time to sit on the board of trustees for the Jewish Federation of Broward County and to fundraise on behalf of the American Cancer Society. Among numerous other awards, she’s been named Top 10 Public Accounting Professionals in Florida by the National Academy of Public Accounting Professionals. But it’s her passion for the field of valuations that has come to define her career—and help her to see the quandaries looming on the horizon.
“There are a lot of issues and challenges affecting valuations, mainly due to an unpredictable economy and the effect tariffs have on our determination of cash flows,” says Schultz. “Also, there is no such a thing as risk-free rates anymore; which is what we use to determine discount and capitalization rates.” All the more reason to count a CPA like among your assets in the coming years.
