Share of Female Enthusiasts In Web3 Grows, KuCoin Survey Reveals

The involvement of female professionals and enthusiasts in the Web3 development domain continues to grow, as revealed by the latest findings published in KuCoin’s Web3 Career Market report.

The survey conducted by one of the leading crypto exchanges took into account over 3,600 female Web3 users, who were categorized as professionals, enthusiasts, and those with no previous working experience in Web3. The report explored the rate of female involvement in Web3 across various career frontiers, such as length of employment, related sector experience, cultural barriers, preferred directions, and many others.

The categorization of users by the group revealed that only 16% are Web3 professionals with previous work experience in such adjacent industry sectors as the cryptocurrency market, metaverse, NFT, DAO, DeFi, and DApp development. 33% have full-time working experience in the Web3 industry, with the rest having worked part-time, as freelancers at 49%, or as entrepreneurs at 27% for professionals. Still, 54% of those surveyed have expressed genuine interest in engaging in the Web3 domain as a career path, many of them having worked previously in metaverse projects, which have been stated as a venue of choice for enthusiasts.

Choice of direction in Web3 plays a crucial role in stimulating female users to select the industry as a career choice, with over 50% of Web3 enthusiasts stating interest in Research & Strategy and Growth Marketing. The Product Management & Operations and Data Analysis areas have also shown promise for attracting female professionals. Development trails far behind, as only 22% of females have mentioned the given direction as an interesting career choice.

The largely male-dominated blockchain space is also having an impact on female professional involvement. The so-called “bro” culture was mentioned by over 33% of female users as an impediment to entering Web3 and growing in it as professionals. Another important barrier is the lack of proper Web3 education that would facilitate Web3 entry for females. Nonetheless, over two-thirds of female professionals have stated that they are confident in their abilities to improve the working environments and overall culture of Web3 projects.

The potential of female professional involvement and contribution to Web3 cannot be downplayed, as the statistics provided by the KuCoin report reveal. Considering the high engagement of top-level female professionals in Web3 projects across a wide spectrum of roles, the report indicates that it is logical to expect faster and broader adoption of decentralized services in the near future as more female professionals join Web3.
