Shane McMahon made his triumphant return to WWE, but the feel-good moment went bad, almost immediately, when McMahon appeared to either blow out his knee and/or tear his quad during an opening exchange with The Miz in an impromptu match.
Shane looked spry as he leapfrogged Miz, to a rousing response, before awkwardly going down with what appeared to be a serious injury. The cameras immediately cut away from McMahon, who was writing in pain in the ring with a trainer checking on him.
The MVP of the segment was Snoop Dogg, who saved the segment by improvising on the spot. Snoop Dogg knocked out The Miz and delivered a People’s Elbow for the victory.
Shane McMahon’s return comes amid Vince McMahon’s reinstatement as a WWE employee. WWE is reportedly expected to be sold to Endeavor as the promotion is likely to exist under the same umbrella as UFC.
Shane McMahon’s last WrestleMania match, ironically enough, was against The Miz at WrestleMania 35 in an overachieving match.
It could be a while, if ever before Shane McMahon returns to a WWE ring. McMahon could also return in a GM role, similar to the role he served on Raw and SmackDown alongside Daniel Bryan in 2016.
Hopefully Shane McMahon’s knee will heal with time. It’s certainly ironic that after all the death-defying stunts Shane McMahon has attempted, the one injury that may have ended his career was a freak accident during a basic mat wrestling exchange.
