Taapsee Pannu’s much-talked-about film Shabaash Mithu saw a dismal performance at the Indian ticket windows and the film made a meagre $0.05 million on the first day of its release on Friday, July 15.
Based on the life of Indian cricketer Mithali Raj, Shabaash Mithu traces her journey from her childhood to the struggles she faced as she took the Indian women’s cricket team to the ICC World Cup finals, twice. The film has been directed by Srijit Mukerji (of Begum Jaan and Sherdil The Pilibhit Saga fame). Shabaash Mithu collected $0.22 million over the first four days of the film’s release.
The other Hindi film that released in theatres this weekend – Rajkummar Rao’s latest outing – HIT The First Case – managed a better collection over the first weekend of its release. After making an opening collection of $0.16 million on Friday, the film has earned $0.699 million over the weekend in Indian markets. Rao’s film has earned $0.75 million in four days of the release while Pannu’s movie got a total of $0.22 million till Monday.
Directed by Sailesh Kolanu, the film is about an officer who is investigating cases that land in his department – the homicide investigation team – even as he fights his own traumatic past. Rao features alongside Sanya Malhotra, Shilpa Shukla, Dalip Tahil and Milind Gunaji in the film. It is the Hindi remake Kolanu’s debut Telugu film that came out in 2020. The original film featured Vishwak Sen and Ruhani Sharma.
Last week’s Hindi release – Vidyut Jammwal-starrer Khuda Hafiz Chapter 2 Agni Pariksha has earned $1.6 million in two weeks.
Meanwhile, Neetu Kapoor’s comeback film, JugJugg Jeeyo has totalled $10.4 million in four weeks of the release. Directed by Raj Mehta, the film also features Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor and Kiara Advani in lead roles.
