South Korean boy band Seventeen secures the highest spot on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart this week with their tenth mini-album FML. The set, which would more likely be called an EP in America, launches at the top of the list, bringing the band vocal outfit back to the summit once again.
Seventeen snags their fifth No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart with their latest release, making it their fifth consecutive No. 1. Impressively, they have yet to miss the mark, as they have only reached the purchase-only tally with five different releases.
The group has now ruled over the Top Album Sales chart with all of the following albums: Your Choice, Attacca, Face The Sun, Sector 17 and now FML.
Luminate’s data reveals that in the week ending May 4, Seventeen’s FML sold 132,000 copies in the United States. That marks the group’s most successful sales week to date in America. That sum also ranks as the fourth largest sales week for any album in 2023.
To put that figure into perspective, the second-bestselling album in America this week, Suga’s D-Day (released under the moniker Agust D), sold just over 25,000 copies in its second frame on the Top Album Sales chart. That means that Seventeen outsold its closest competitor more than five times over.
According to Billboard, CD sales were the driving force behind the immediate success of FML during its first week of release. Of its total album sales, 98% were from CDs, while only 2% were from digital album downloads. It is worth mentioning that the album was not released in any other retail format, including vinyl or cassette.
Despite a strong debut on the charts, Seventeen narrowly missed hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The top spot is still held by Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time, which has now maintained its position for nine consecutive weeks. That title moved another 138,000 equivalent units, putting it just ahead of the K-pop titans. FML debuted with an impressive 135,000 equivalent album units, according to Billboard.
