‘Secret Invasion’ Director Reveals How Long Rhodey Has Been A Skrull

If you ever wanted more evidence that the MCU doesn’t exactly know what it’s doing right now, look no further than an explanation by the director of every episode of Secret Invasion trying to talk about how long Rhodey has been a Skrull, really the only major reveal from the series.

Director Ali Selim spoke to Comicbook.com about the open question, when exactly was Rhodey replaced by a Skrull? We saw him emerge from the storage facility supposedly being there longer than anyone else. And Selim thinks he has an answer. Maybe.

“A lot of people have asked about, ‘Definitively, when did Rhodey…?'” Selim said. “I think his legs not working in the end of episode six and him being in the hospital gown points to [Captain America: Civil War]. And, from there, does it have to be definitive, or is it more fun for the audience to go back and revisit every moment, every Rhodey moment and look at it with a different lens now that they think, ‘Oh, he might’ve been a Skrull there.’ And make the decision for themselves, or it’ll be answered in Armor Wars.”

I’m sorry so is he trying to say there…is no definitive answer here? That fans are just supposed to guess and come up with the answer they want? It also sounds like he doesn’t exactly know if it’s supposed to be answered in Armor Wars or not (it kind of has to be, but the question is whether the show simply has to make its own decision if there wasn’t a set plan in place).

If what Selim is saying is actually supposed to be the answer, that means Rhodey was replaced during the Infinity War, Endgame and Falcon and the Winter Solider. It means that “real” Rhodey doesn’t know about Tony Stark’s death, and that Skrull Rhodey was the one apparently uh, fake dealing with grief in some very powerful parts during the Avengers movies.

Fans of course hate this, as it makes little sense. There’s really nothing to comb through as if seeds were planted for this. There was nothing. This was clearly not the plan until Secret Invasion had to come up with some sort of Skrull reveal, and they chose him. You cannot possibly say it was the original plan to have Rhodey be a Skrull in three different projects before this one with zero clues about that and moments that make no sense if he was.

I am guessing that Armor Wars will just have to run with this idea, because there’s really no other choice now. Just a terrible idea in a terrible show.
