WWE Hall of Famer and legendary wrestler Scott Hall has passed away at Age 63. WWE Raw opened with a memorial graphic in honor of the popular star.
“Scott Hall was taken off live support four hours ago. He is still alive at this writing. Miracles have happened but this would need to be one of them,” read a tweet by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Scott Hall’s family planned to discontinue his life support according to longtime tag team partner and best friend Kevin Nash.
“Scott’s on life support. Once his family is in place they will discontinue life support,” said Nash in a heartfelt Instagram post.
“I’m going to lose the one person on this planet I’ve spent more of my life with than anyone else. My heart is broken and I’m so very f—ing sad. I love Scott with all my heart but now I have to prepare my life without him in the present.”
Hall was reportedly placed on life support at the Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga. following three heart attacks amid complications from hip surgery.
Hall was one of the biggest stars of pro wrestling’s most popular boom period during The Attitude Era. Hall, previously known in WWE as Razor Ramon, was a pivotal component of the Monday Night Wars as a game-changing free agent signing alongside Kevin Nash. In July of 1996, the pair joined Hulk Hogan as charter members of the New World Order, which swung momentum in WCW’s favor for its famed 83-week win-streak against Raw during the mid-’90s. Hall became the rare two-time Hall of Famer when he was inducted as a member of the NWO in 2019.
One of the most talented workers of his era, Hall’s struggles outside of the ring were well documented. Hall was featured in multiple documentaries focusing on his struggles with substance abuse, including E:60 and Dark Side of the Ring’s “Plane Ride from Hell” episode. In the E:60 feature from 2011, WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon noted WWE had spent more money on Scott Hall’s rehab costs than anybody, with the number estimated to be in the six figures.
“It’s the most amount of money we’ve spent on anyone,” she said. “I just want Scott to get help and to decide for himself that he needs help. It makes me sad. I don’t want anybody to pass away prematurely or otherwise really. Scott was an incredibly talented performer, larger than life, charismatic. He’s a father, he’s a friend. I’m sure he means a lot to a lot of people and it would be a shame for him to pass away.”
Hall worked towards recovery with help from Diamond Dallas Page, who housed the WWE Hall of Famer in what he calls the “accountability crib,” as part of a treatment program that included DDP Yoga.
Hall’s most recent complications came when he fell and broke his hip earlier this month, as reported by Jerry Jarrett. The accident required the surgery which ultimately led to his demise. Hall was previously scheduled to attend WrestleMania 38 festivities in Dallas, Texas.
Hall is survived by his son, Cody, and his daughter Cassidy Lee.
