Last night, someone stole and smashed the bronze likeness. Early reports say the vandal left broken pieces behind, and hours later locals spotted fragments floating in the lake. Police cordoned off the scene and launched a thorough probe,no suspects have been named.

X user @Grittoshi claimed that during Swiss National Day on August 1, intoxicated revelers near the Aur Café simply overturned the statue,welded by just two points,into Lake Lugano as a prank, insisting “cameras are everywhere” and “no way they could cart it off.” Fragments lay scattered, a sad symbol of celebratory excess.
