‘Rush Hour 4’ In Development Following Trump’s Request For New Installment

Topline

A new “Rush Hour” movie is in development almost 20 years after the franchise’s trilogy was complete, according multiple reports, setting up a return to theaters following a direct request President Donald Trump reportedly made to Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison for a new installment of the buddy cop movie series.

Key Facts

“Rush Hour 4” is in development with Paramount as its distributor, Variety reported, noting “Rush Hour” trilogy director Brett Ratner, whose directing career was sunk by #MeToo allegations, will direct the new installment.

The news comes two days after Semafor reported Trump “personally pressed” Ellison to revive “Rush Hour.”

Paramount will get a flat distribution fee to release “Rush Hour 4” in theaters, Variety first reported, noting Warner Bros. will get an undisclosed cut of box office revenues before financiers recoup costs.

The franchise has historically starred Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, who have teased the fourth installment for years and are now 71 years old and 54 years old, respectively.
