Rosé’s New Single Misses The Mark As It Debuts

Rosé nearly managed to double up on the Hot 100 this week, but she just misses out on achieving that feat — a real rarity for K-pop solo stars – by just a few spaces. The Blackpink member and solo musician recently released a new single titled “Messy,” and while Rosé remains a global superstar, she couldn’t quite transform the track into a hit in the United States.

“Messy” Isn’t a Hit

“Messy” suffers from a somewhat disappointing launch. The tune completely misses the Hot 100, Billboard’s ranking of the most consumed songs in the United States. Typically, when a musician as popular as Rosé shares a new single, it’s almost guaranteed to land on this tally, along with several others. Sadly, it seems “Messy” either didn’t receive a full promotional push, or perhaps fans just weren’t as interested in this track as they were in some of her earlier releases.

Rosé on the Bubbling Under Hot 100

This week, “Messy” debuts at No. 9 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100. That chart ranks the 25 most popular tunes in America that have yet to reach the main list.

Rosé has now seen just two solo cuts land on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 and fail to crack the main Hot 100. In December 2024, her single “Number One Girl” missed the general ranking by just one space, peaking at No. 1 on the Bubbling Under list. “Messy” now represents a new low for her on that tally.

“Messy” Reaches the Global Charts

The track also appears on both of Billboard’s worldwide rankings. It starts at No. 25 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and No. 34 on the Billboard Global 200. In both instances, Rosé collects her eleventh career hit on her own.

“Messy” didn’t sell well enough to appear on the Digital Song Sales chart, nor did it rack up enough plays on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music to land on the Streaming Songs list. It also appears to be missing from radio entirely, as it does not chart on any of Billboard’s airplay rosters. Those three consumption metrics feed into where a tune lands on the Hot 100.

Rosé’s “Apt.” is Still Winning

It’s not all bad news for Rosé, though. Her smash “Apt.” with Bruno Mars is still a big win, even as it reaches a milestone 30 weeks on the Hot 100. This frame, the collaboration steps back just two spots, landing at No. 22.

The F1 Movie Soundtrack

“Messy” serves as the second official single from the F1 soundtrack album, which will accompany the film set to arrive in late June. Rosé follows “Lose My Mind” by Don Toliver and Doja Cat. Since the release of “Messy,” several other cuts from the project have been shared, including tunes by Myke Towers, Chris Stapleton, and Dom Dolla.
