Roku Integrates Discovery+ Content On Streaming

Roku has integrated Discovery+ into the Roku Channel offerings. Roku already offered a stand-alone app for Discovery+ but the integration will allow for users to purchase Discovery+ content directly. The integration will support both versions, ad-supported and ad-free, of the streaming service.

“The launch of discovery+ on The Roku Channel makes it easy for our users to access this compelling content, while enabling Discovery to reach incremental audiences through The Roku Channel,” said Roku’s programming VP, Rob Holmes. “By offering more great content in The Roku Channel, we provide even more reasons for our millions of streamers to engage with a top-five channel on our U.S. platform, and more opportunities for our partners to reach our large audience.”

Roku’s recent quarterly report found that the Roku Channel reaches households with 80 million people and that the channel is in the top 5 among all streaming apps on its platform in terms of active account reach and streaming hour engagement. The Roku Channel offers free ad-supported content and also acts as a gateway for over 50 other subscription services.

Discovery is in its own integration. Discovery+ is part of the newly merged Warner Bros Discovery. Warner Bros Discovery plans to combine Discovery+ and HBO Max into a single service. HBO Max was originally not available on Roku but came to the app in 2020. Warner Bros Discovery reported last month that Discovery had 24 million streaming subscribers but the company did not break down the numbers for Discovery+ separately.

Discovery+ has content from HGT
GT
V, Food Network, TLC, ID, OWN, Travel Channel, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and Magnolia Network, as well as original titles and licensed rights to third-party programming.

Gabriel Sauerhoff, SVP Digital Distribution and Commercial Partnerships, Warner. Bros. Discovery said the deal will “deepen our relationship with Roku, a valued partner, and expand access of discovery+ on the Roku platform through the launch on The Roku Channel.”
