A now former Real Madrid first team star used social media to say farewell to the club and its fans after his departure was announced ahead of the weekend.
On the same day it confirmed the arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, Madrid released a communicado announcing a parting of ways between itself and Jesus Vallejo.
“Real Madrid CF announces that Jesus Vallejo has ended his time as a Real Madrid player. Vallejo has defended our shirt for five seasons. In this time, he has won two European Cups, four Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, one La Liga, one Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups,” a statement began.
“With the Spanish national team, he was a silver medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and a European U-21 and U-19 champion. Real Madrid thanks Jesus Vallejo for his professionalism, his commitment and his work, and wishes him and his family the best in this new stage of his life,” it then concluded.
Early on Saturday afternoon in Spain, Vallejo used his accounts on social media sites such as X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram to say goodbye to Los Blancos.
“Thank you very much to all the people who are part of Real Madrid for these seasons in which we have lived moments of all kinds. Both my family and I leave with the good feelings that we have lived, worked and enjoyed in this stage until the last day,” Vallejo first said.
Vallejo said that he will “undoubtedly” take “many lessons” with him that were learned on and off the pitch, while he is also “very proud to have worked daily to help the team and my teammates as much as possible at all times”.
Lastly, Vallejo stated he is “totally grateful to all the Madrid fans who have been supporting me in every game, in every rally and at the start of every training in the Ciudad Deportiva”, before signing off with a call of “Hala Madrid!”.
There was no space for Vallejo at Real Madrid
Already struggling for minutes, there was now even less room in Xabi Alonso’s first XI for Vallejo thanks to the arrival of Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth. As an ex-Real Madrid star, however, the 28-year-old shouldn’t be short of potential suitors around Spain and the rest of Europe.
