Spanish soccer giant Real Madrid used social media and its official website to announce a huge first team transfer on Friday morning.
“Real Madrid CF and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement that will keep Trent Alexander-Arnold at our club for the next six seasons, from June 1, 2025 to June 30, 2031,” a statement regarding the development began.
“The 26-year-old English international joins our team after winning nine titles with Liverpool: one Champions League, one Club World Cup, one European Super Cup, two Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, 2 League Cups, and one Community Shield,” it added.
Madrid noted that Alexander-Arnold has spent his entire career at Liverpool until now, while also becoming a full England international that has featured at two World Cup and one edition of the Euros.
It also explained how the right back has been named in the FIFPRO World 11 once, the Champions League Team of the Season twice and the Premier League’s All-Star Team three times amid being named the English top flight’s Young Player of the Year in 2019/2020.
“Alexander-Arnold will play with Real Madrid in the Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States starting June 14,” the correspondence concluded, with COPE reporting that Madrid has had to pay Liverpool $5.7 million (€5 million) to make this happen.
The Alexander-Arnold coup sees Madrid president Florentino Perez once more land a big name for free in terms of there being no transfer fee, around 12 months since Kylian Mbappe joined the 15-time Champions League winners from Paris Saint-Germain after his terms expired at the Parc des Princes.
In the past, we’ve also seen the likes of David Alaba and Toni Rudiger walk for nothing from Bayern Munich and Chelsea respectively, to become first team regulars in the Spanish capital.
Real Madrid wanted its man before the Club World Cup
Real Madrid handing over a small fee for a player it could have had without paying a penny for on the brink of July is another indicator that it is going to the Club World Cup to try and win the newly-reimagined FIFA competition and the attractive prize money it has on offer.
